Music and me

 Hi everyone! My name is Nicholette Young. I'm a sophomore at converse and I'm on the Acrobatics and Tumbling team! I have a bit of music background, but not much. I taught myself how to play the ukulele and I can sing. Other than that, I don't have much of a musical background other than listening to music 24/7. 

I grew up in a town called Dacula Georgia, and later moved to Loganville Georgia where I still reside today. I have a huge family, 4 brothers and 2 sisters (I am the youngest child). I love Converse because of how close to home it is and how much of a community I have built since being here. I have an ESA living on campus, her name is Phoebe so feel free to come say hi if you see us walking out on the quad! 

               



        
                                                              

Music is very important in my life so let me tell you about it!

1. An example of something I like right now: Since November, I have really enjoyed listening to We Found Love by Rihanna because it reminds me of fun memories over the summer with my friends. We would listen to fun songs like this one on replay and it reminds me of simpler times. I also love it because of how fun it is to just dance and sing to when I'm in the car or even just listening to music in my room. I love the rhythm and how catchy it is. I have always loved Rihanna and this is one of my favorite songs by her. 


2. An example of music that is deeply important to me: I love all kinds of music but the most important type of music for me is worship music, specifically Ask Seek Pray by River Valley Ages. This song is so special to me because I feel the presence of God in this song. Its so vulnerable and it gives me a minute to stop and think about everything going on in my life. It gives me a sense of peace and comfort. The weight of the song especially is important because of the message. I have gone through many things throughout my life and this song helps me stand firm when I am struggling in everyday life. 


3. An example of music I don't really connect with: I like all genres of music, even rap sometimes. However, there is some songs I do not like, one of them being ME! by Taylor Swift. I absolutely love Taylor Swift. Fun fact, I have been to every single tour she's been on besides her first because I was too young. But this song I do not connect with at all. Its not very catchy and theres really no meaning to it personally in my life. She is an amazing artist but I have never connected to it on a personal level. I also think the collab with Brendon Urie is out of left field and random. The music video isn't great, the only good thing in the video was her getting to adopt the kitten that was in the video to begin with.

    Hey, Nicholette! I loved everything you shared in your blog! My favorite song was "Ask Seek Pray" because I am a Christian and worship singer! So it really resonated with me!! The song that I thought was the most interesting was "ME!" because I think it is so funny that you have been to almost all of Taylor Swift's tours but you really do not connect with this song at all!

    Nicholette!! I love We Found Love by Rihanna as well! Me and my friends love blasting this in the car and dancing along! Its a very good get happy and pumped kinda song. i thought it was very interesting that your favorite artist is Taylor Swift yet you put one of her songs as something you can't get into. I def can agree with you about "Me", that song makes me so angry to listen to compared to all of her other songs. Listening to it on the Target commercials on repeat when it first came out made me not like it more lol.

    Hi Nicholette ! I really enjoyed reading your blog and especially listening to your songs! I looove the song "we found love" by Rihanna and like you, I do not really connect with this song by Taylor Swift...I just think that this song is overpriced. I'm sorry I'm not a Taylor Swift's fan as you are so I hope you will understand the fact that I don't really connect with her songs...

    Hi Nicolette! I love the song " we found love" by Rihanna as well, it's also a song on my playlist!! I found it interesting that you mentioned Taylor Swift as your favorite artists in class but you said "me" by Taylor swift was a song you dislike. Im personally not a fan of Taylor swift so I can agree a lot on your last statement, lol!

    I love how you connect your life and passions to music. I love some Rihanna and feel the same way about “We found love” because it also reminds me of fun times with my friends. I also thought it was interesting how the song you dislike was also written by your favorite singer. I think it’s cool how you like a song because of what it means to you and not just because a certain person wrote it.

    I love the way you talk about "Ask Seek Pray" and connecting it to your time to stop and think and reflect. I really enjoy doing that during worship music too. The song that I found most interesting was Me! by Taylor Swift. Every time that I am with you, you always bring her up so I think it is funny you don't like this song. Also I love your dog.

Music and Family

 Hi everyone! Music in my family has always been super important to us. Growing up, I was aways going to concerts and music festivals, listening to music 24/7 in my house, in the car, etc. with my siblings, parents, and even grandparents. Someone who I have always had an interest for their music taste is my mom. During this interview my mom talks about her love for 80's music and the things she listened to growing up.  During this conversation with my mom, I asked her 6 questions. The first question I asked was "what artist did you listen to most growing up and in your teens?" She replied with "mostly, I listened to Prince and Michael Jackson".
