Music And Traditions

Since I was little, I have always loved music. I would know all the words to my favorite songs and make my mom play them in the car 24/7. There are many traditions in my family revolving around music and I'm so excited to share them with you.  My whole family has been in love with music for as long as I can remember. In this blog, I will talk about two traditions that we have in my family.

For my first tradition, I have talked about it a few times in class is going to Taylor Swift's album tours. My first concert was the Speak Now Tour (the first ever world tour she had gone on), by winning tickets on the radio. At around 6 years old, Taylor Swift singlehandedly took over mine and my sisters worlds. The Speak Now Tour is really one of the first memories in my childhood I can remember and because of this concert, it started a tradition to go on every single tour she's been on since no matter how far we have to travel to do so. One of my favorite songs off of Speak Now is called "Mine". My sister and I would jump around in her room and sing it at the top of our lungs all the time. I remember when she played it on her tour little 4-6 year old me was crying tears of joy. My love for this song runs so deep that when she played it as a surprise song in Toronto Canada on the Eras Tour, I cried because I wasn't there. Now that may seem silly to you, but to me it makes me think back on simpler times when my family got along and we all lived together. It makes me think of happy memories with my sisters and how close we used to be because of her music. Every time we are together, we still listen to this song and every tour Taylor goes on, we somehow get tickets to be there. Such a fun and lighthearted tradition I never want to lose with my sisters.

Another trend I so fondly think about, is when all 6 of my siblings would pile up in the family car and drive to my grandmas house over the summer. During this 6 hour car ride, my siblings would have all the windows down, the music blasting, and snacks ready to go as well as several games planed out for the trip. One song I remember listening to every year when we would get into the car after it came out was The Cup Song. At some point during every road trip we took, this song would play at least once. Sometimes even 5 or 6 times depending on who had their phone connected to the car. As we listened to this song, we all did the hand motions. I even remember my brother Matt teaching me how to do it in the back seat one year because I was still young and couldn't keep up with them that fast. Now this song can be annoying but the memories to look back on are not. It was always so fun to have something to connect with my siblings during those long car rides and I still cherish these memories to this day.

  1. Great post! I have never really been a "huge" Taylor Swift fan. There are a few songs I like. However, I do resonate with "Mine." It doesn't have a really personal meaning to me. I have always heard it, especially during my childhood growing up, and it reminds me of that. It has a smooth beat to it perfect for driving down the road and just jamming out!

  2. Hi! Even though I’m not a huge fan of Taylor Swift, I still think it’s super cute that her music is something you and your sisters share a common interest in. I also thought it was adorable that you and your siblings had a good time on your car rides to your grandfather's house.

  3. Hi Nicholette ! I really appreciated reading your blog and especially seeing that the cup song was an important one to you. I know most of the people find it annoying or whatever but I also remembered friends teaching me how to do the thing with the cup because I couldn't do it alone ! I now know that I'm not the only one ! :)
